Peru: Interim President Merino resigns after only five days

Government crisis in Peru: Transitional head of state Manuel Merino has already resigned from office after there were deaths in demonstrations against the dismissal of his predecessor.

The Peruvian interim president Manuel Merino resigns after five days in office. He will give up the post of head of state, Merino said in a television address on Sunday. He was reacting to mass protests against the dismissal of his predecessor Martín Vizcarra and demands for resignation by the parliament, which had met for a crisis session on Sunday.
