Is this man Mexico’s new drug king? Search posters in the USA show three photos of a middle-aged Mexican man with receding hairline, in two pictures he wears a narrow moustache. The American Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has released ten million dollars on Nemésio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho”. The head of the dreaded cartel “Jalisco Nueva Generación” (CJNG) is supposed to supply large parts of the USA with synthetic drugs.
Some media already compare “El Mencho” with “El Chapo”, the former leader of the Sinaloa cartel, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the USA a year ago and is serving his sentence in a maximum security prison in the US state of Colorado.
El Mencho”, who is about 54 years old, has moved into the international spotlight because he has dared something that “El Chapo” and other drug lords have always shied away from: He is said to be responsible for an assassination attempt on the police chief of Mexico City, Omar García Harfuch, in June. In the assassination attempt in the middle of the Mexican capital, two bodyguards of the official and a passer-by were killed, Harfuch was injured.
