FC Bayern Munich dominates the women’s soccer league – and how: In the top match of the tenth matchday, the leader of the table defeated serial champions VfL Wolfsburg 4-1 (2-0). The goals for the hosts were scored by Viviane Asseyi (26th minute), Marina Hegering (43rd) and Lineth Beerensteyn (46th), while VfL defender Dominique Janssen scored an own goal (77th). Lena Goeßling scored the right goal for Wolfsburg with a penalty (64.). With ten wins and 30:1 goals, the Munich team leads the table. Wolfsburg, actually the measure of things in the league, is five points behind in second place.
And that is probably not the name of the number one in the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg for the time being. Actually, the Wolfsburgs have been the dominant team in recent years. In the past four seasons, the team has secured the championship and the cup, and won the Champions League in 2013 and 2014. This season the status quo is shaky. With nine wins from nine games – and not a single goal conceded – Bayern led the standings by two points ahead of Wolfsburg. And now this victory – both teams were aware of the importance of the game. Nervousness, many duels in midfield and a lack of ideas in the offensive game determined the first half of the game. A strong individual action and a standard situation brought Bayern on the winning track.
No penalty kick, no chancesMore ball possession and the urge to score had the guests at the beginning. After nine minutes, Wolfsburg demanded a penalty when defender Hegering took the ball to her upper arm in her own penalty area. Referee Karoline Wacker, however, decided in favour of a striker foul.
The 1:0 fell on the other side. After a long ball in the direction of the penalty area, Bavaria’s Klara Bühl, with a body-deception, beat two opponents and put the ball to Sydney Lohmann on the edge of the penalty area. The 20-year-old stumbled at the end and unintentionally passed the ball on to Asseyi. The French international had no problems in front of goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek.
With their second goal shot FC Bayern increased. After a strong free kick from the half-field of Lina Magull, in which the ball dropped late and exactly at the right time, Hegering had the longest leg and spiked the ball into the goal.Bayern raised early, Wolfsburg must openKurz before the break, captain Lena Goeßling had the first good chance for the reigning champions. But her attempt was strongly parried by Kiedrzynek. With the first chance after the break, the game was decided. After a ball loss by Pia-Sophie Wolter in the forward movement, Bühl shook off Janssen and put the ball in the middle to Beerensteyn, who only had to push in.
