USA after the election: Prosecutors do not want to investigate alleged election fraud

According to a media report, 16 US prosecutors are rebelling against an order by Attorney General Barr. They are supposed to investigate irregularities in the presidential election – but are resisting.

Numerous deputy U.S. prosecutors are rebelling against the order of U.S. Attorney General William Barr to review the results of the U.S. presidential election, reports The Washington Post. According to the report, they do not want to comply with Barr’s instructions and are said to have written a joint letter asking Barr to withdraw his instruction to do so in the Monday memorandum. The latest memo instructed them to publicly investigate “substantial” allegations of vote-counting irregularities.

The 16 lawyers specifically charged with supervising the presidential elections therefore stressed in the letter that they had no knowledge of any extraordinary irregularities in the counting of votes. In addition, the order would involve them in party politics. According to the “Washington Post”, a spokeswoman for the Department of Justice told the “Washington Post” that the lawyers “may not have read the memo”. She referred to a section in which Barr urged caution, noting that “nothing here should be taken as an indication that the Department concluded that voting irregularities influenced the outcome of an election. While serious allegations should be handled with great care, flimsy, speculative, fanciful, or far-fetched allegations should not be used as a basis for federal investigation, it said.

According to data providers and US media, the former US President Donald Trump has lost the election. According to Edison Research and all major TV stations, his Democratic challenger Joe Biden has a total of 306 voters, Trump 232. 270 voters are needed for a victory. Is Trump holding out on his refusal? Trump still refuses to admit defeat and acknowledge his rival’s victory. He has filed lawsuits in several states. His election campaign team had claimed election rigging and voting irregularities. Experts do not expect the lawsuits to have any chance of success. On Thursday, US security authorities had rejected allegations of fraud.

The “Post” writes that current and former officials of the Ministry of Justice have declared in recent days that they are stunned and frustrated by Barr’s statement. They feared that he was supporting President Trump in his efforts to challenge his defeat.
