[“The medical technology group Siemens Healthineers wants to buy the US company Varian Medical Systems, which specialises in cancer care, for 16.4 billion dollars (around 14 billion euros). This was announced by the Siemens subsidiary, which is listed on the MDax. Varian shareholders are to receive 177.50 dollars per share. Varian’s board of directors approved the plan and recommended the shareholders to accept the offer. “]

The acquisition of Varian is expected to close in the first half of calendar year 2021, subject to the approval of Varian shareholders, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Varian had sales of approximately $3.2 billion in the last fiscal year, achieving an operating margin of 17 percent. In the second quarter of fiscal 2019/2020, Siemens Healthineers increased its revenue by 3.3 percent to €3.685 billion.
